Tech Leaders Launch Health Initiative to Help Fight COVID-19

The new Linux Foundation Public Health (LFPH) initiative, which counts Cisco, IBM, Tencent, and VMware among its charter members, aims to help public health authorities around the world fight COVID-19.

According to the announcement, LFPH will initially focus on exposure notification apps but will expand to support all aspects of testing, tracing, and isolation activities. The project includes two hosted projects: COVID Shield and COVID Green, which are being deployed in Canada, Ireland, and parts of the United States. LFPH has also mapped the existing landscape of open and closed source applications (based on the Google Apple Exposure Notification) in the COVID-19 response ecosystem.

The announcement notes that public health authorities (PHAs) in the United States and elsewhere are faced with a need to scale their capabilities to effectively engage with the public during this pandemic. LFPH aims to provide a forum and tools for companies and individuals to assist PHAs in meeting these challenges. You can find more information at lfph.io.
