Intel has joined RISC-V International, the global open hardware standards organization, and has announced creation of a billion-dollar fund that aims to speed innovation and development of RISC-V.
Intel’s Nios® V processors are already based on RISC-V, but according to the announcement, the company’s investment “will strengthen the overall ecosystem and drive commercialization of RISC-V.”
This “massive investment in open source has the power to change the course of history,” said Calista Redmond, CEO of RISC-V International. “Open collaboration in RISC-V has already ignited a profound shift in the semiconductor industry, and this partnership will accelerate innovation in open computing.”
