Open19 Project Now Part of Linux Foundation

Open19 recently joined the Linux Foundation, with the addition of Cisco as a member of the project. According to the Open19 website, the project forms “a community that creates and maintains a set of open source standards that power the world's leading data center and edge infrastructure solutions.”

When Open19 was founded In 2016 by LinkedIn, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and VaporIO, the companies were looking for a community-based way “to solve cost, efficiency, and operational challenges of data center deployments. An innovative 19″ rack standard was born with a governance model that encourages both innovation and commercialization in an open, community-driven model,” the website says.

And, as part of the Linux Foundation, Open19 will continue to foster a community around this open hardware standard that is “ideal for edge environments and custom cloud data center deployments.”
