O’Reilly’s latest learning platform report takes a detailed look at what the platform’s 2.8 million users are working on and learning about day-to-day. This information, Mike Loukides says, provides useful insight into key technology topics and trends for 2023 and beyond.
For example, he says, “zero trust, which reflects an important rethinking of how security works, showed tremendous growth. But other technology topics (including some favorites) are hitting plateaus or even declining.”
Overall, topics that saw the greatest growth were:
- Business (30%)
- Design (23%)
- Data (20%)
- Security (20%)
- Hardware (19%)
“Software development grew by 12 percent, which sounds disappointing, although in any study like this, the largest categories tend to show the least change,” Loukides says. Interest in coding practices, however, saw a big increase. And, the 35 percent year-over-year growth in this area “indicates that software developers are highly motivated to improve their practice of programming.”
