The Linux Foundation has established the Open Metaverse Foundation (OMF) to provide a collaboration space for development of an “inclusive, global, vendor-neutral and scalable Metaverse.”
“The potential for the Metaverse is boundless, but only if we pursue it as an open, collaborative endeavor,” says Royal O’Brien, executive director of the OMF.
To foster collaboration and “create the building blocks to transform the emerging concept of the Metaverse into a reality,” O’Brien says, the OMF is organized into the following Foundational Interest Groups (FIGs), which provide decision structure and resources for key development areas:
- Users
- Transactions
- Digital Assets
- Simulations and Virtual Worlds
- Artificial Intelligence
- Networking
- Security and Privacy
- Legal and Policy
Contributions to OMF projects are licensed under both Apache 2.0 and MIT; visit the website to learn how to participate.
