Google announced a new sustainability goal last year of “operating on carbon-free energy (CFE) 24/7, everywhere, by 2030.” As part of this goal, the company is introducing ways for customers to consider the carbon impact of where they locate their applications.
In a recent blog post, Google noted that earlier this year they published the carbon characteristics of various Google Cloud regions as well as a region-picking tool, which considers variables such as price, latency, and sustainability.
Now Google is adding “lowest carbon impact” to the list of considerations within Cloud Console location selectors. Check out the documentation to learn how the metric is calculated and “how to include carbon emissions characteristics into the location choice for your Google Cloud services.”
