FOSSDA Project Aims to Record Open Source History

The Free and Open Source Stories Digital Archive Foundation has launched the FOSSDA Project with the purpose of archiving open source history.

According to the announcement, “the FOSSDA Project aims to uncover and record the stories of the first generation of free and open source software developers, visionaries and strategists who challenged the establishment and changed how we interact with the world.”

The project’s activities include:

  • Collecting oral histories by identifying and interviewing open source pioneers.
  • Recording, transcribing, and indexing interviews.
  • Sharing stories with the public.

“FOSSDA is about the personal stories of those who came together to revolutionize our modern technological world,” says Heather Meeker, the project’s founder.
