Deleting a file is like crossing out an address in your address book without demolishing the building to which it corresponds, says Christopher Tozzi. “The building remains there until someone comes and builds a new building in its place.”
So, the trick to recovering or undeleting files is finding them before they have been overwritten or replaced. Tozzi looks at three open source data-undeletion tools available for Ubuntu and other Linux distros.
